Why Colour Friday Matters
Colour Friday - Bring Joy Shop Small
This week marks one of the best small business celebrations of the year, Colour Friday! It's a joyful, creative movement encouraging us all to support independent makers, it is everything Black Friday is not.
While big brands gear up for another Black Friday frenzy, Colour Friday celebrates something smaller, brighter, kinder and infinitely more meaningful, thoughtfully made gifts, beautifully crafted products and purchases that support real people running small businesses, not multinationals. 🌈
As a handmade botanical soap maker, the ethos of Colour Friday really resonates with me. Every bar I create begins with plants, slow processes and the hope that it will bring a moment of calm or joy into someone’s daily rituals. In fact my mission statement is to Elevate Your Everyday Self-care. My kind of craft simply isn’t built for big discounts, it’s built for connection, calm & common sense.
What Is Colour Friday?
Colour Friday was created by Holly Tucker MBE as a joyful alternative to Black Friday. Instead of promoting mass-produced products and deep discounts, it invites people to shop small, support independent businesses, visit your local high street & choose gifts that truly matter.
Every purchase from a small business directly supports the human being who dreamt it up, designed it and poured care into making it. Colour Friday is a reminder that shopping can have heart and that thoughtful choices keep communities colourful, creative, and alive.
Why It Resonates With Me as a Handmade Maker
Creating botanical soaps is a slow, thoughtful process. Colour Friday aligns beautifully with this way of working. I make soap bars that actively encourage low impact living & mindful self-care.
Handmade Takes Time, Care and Intention
Each bar begins with carefully selected plant oils, botanicals and essential oils. Nothing is rushed. From infusing plants - roots, petals & leaves into oil, to waiting a minimum of 4 weeks for my soap bars to cure, it truly is a slow craft.
Customers Become Part of the Story
From the ingredients to the way I cut and cure each bar, every soap carries meaning. So when someone chooses Bohemia & Flower soap, they’re choosing a maker, not a machine. That connection is at the heart of everything I do.
Sustainability Matters
Colour Friday encourages thoughtful buying & counters the impulsive spending & the over consumption that comes with Black Friday sales. The ethics & values which Bohemia & Flower is built around aren’t seasonal & they guide every part of my small business, all year round.
