Soap on a Rope

My journey towards making artisan, plant-based soap started in 2018 during Plastic Free July. As a household we realised just how much single-use plastic we were buying & shower gel and hand soap were the first things I tackled along with switching to refills for other products like laundry liquid and washing up liquid. That month made me think about how small swaps could have a big impact and although I didn't know it at the time it really became the catalyst that was the start of Bohemia and Flower small batch soap!

I started evolving my ideas & there was much trial and error to create the perfect soap on a rope, I wanted a chunky 'brick' of soap that hangs well, feels good in your hand, air dries between uses and is practical in a shower. I take real care in crafting beautiful and functional soap bars that make everyday self-care feel considered & I personally test all my formulations on myself before they are accredited by a cosmetics lab. Each bar is plant-based and handmade in really small batches. The rope is British made cotton and moulded straight into the bar, so you can use the soap down to the last tiny piece - theres zero waste here. Starter Recommendations

For people trying Soap on a Rope for the first time I usually recommend Grove or Coast. Coast is mineral rich with organic Cornish kelp, sweet fennel, juniper and tea tree. It feels fresh and herbal and works well after a swim or a gym session. Grove is sunshine coloured with pure marigold petals & fragranced with bergamot, may chang and orange essential oils. It is bright but balanced and particularly family friendly. Garden is more floral, it's inspired by summer rose gardens and Mountain is calming and herbal, an updated twist on classic lavender soap.

Practical Benefits

Because it hangs to dry between uses it allows the soap bar to air dry between uses & not to sit in water. How long a bar lasts really depends on how it is used, how many people are having showers and whether it has time to dry out between uses. It is fully plastic free and home compostable. It travels well and works in a busy household shower. It sits slightly apart from my core bar soaps which are designed for the sink / basin. Soap on a Rope belongs in the shower and adds a gorgeous pop of colour to your shower decor too. 

Is Soap on a Rope better than shower gel?

Soap on a Rope feels like an instant straightforward swap. It hangs to dry, avoids the need for a soap dish or holder in the shower and removes the need for plastic bottles. It's also handmade from vegan ingredients with zero additives, colorants, artificial colours, artificial fragrance or SLS / parabens. 

Does it really last longer than a normal bar?

How long a bar lasts really depends on how it is used, how many people are having showers and whether it has time to dry out between uses. I recommend keeping your bathroom / shower room wet ventilated, have the window ajar to let fresh air flow, use your extraction fan to remove steam and use a squeegee to wipe down the walls and shower glass to also help reduce the amount of moisture in the room. If you have a busy household shower consider having two bars hanging to allow one to dry whilst you use the other & alternate.

Yes, Bohemia & Flower soap on a rope is sold in a cotton drawstring bag with a biodegradable cardboard swing tag. The cotton rope is moulded into the bar itself and everything is home compostable / recyclable.
