Winter Self-Care 🍊

I know January always gets cited as the most gloomy month & it has been bitterly cold this year (even here on the Costa del Kent 😂), but I actually find February the most challenging, there’s a promise of Spring with daffodils & snowdrops, but it’s still cold air & knitwear all the way. So I look for the positives, like new seasons citrus in the shops, blood oranges & Seville oranges are here for just a few precious weeks. I’m a big fan of thick cut homemade marmalade, a great way to spend a cold day, either making it, or persuading someone else to stir the pan 👩‍🍳 & simply enjoying it with tea & toast.

Oranges suit the season so well, full of much needed Vitamin C, they enliven the senses whilst reminding us that the suns heat will return soon enough. Another winter positive is really enjoying a warming shower or a long bath with Epsom salts, allowing your muscles to properly release. I recommend zesty Grove Soap in the shower every morning, it makes such a difference, waking up naturally with pure essential oils, it’s a good grounding to build the rest of your day. It’s full of pure orange and bergamot essential oils, with healing Calendula petals & just a dash of grounding Patchouli oil.

At the basin it’s got to be Forest Soap, with juniper, rosemary & cedar it’s another must have this season, with a magical fragrance like resinous tree bark in winter. The activated charcoal creates a silky texture & is great at drawing out impurities which means it’s super effective as a facial cleansing bar as well. I’m a recent convert to organic castor oil for dry winter skin. And remember even in winter you need hydration & so does your skin, if a glass of cold water is just too cold, drink herbal tea, particularly an Elderberry & Echinacea blend to help ward off winter illnesses.
